Lazaro Announced FIU Women’s Student-Athlete of the Year

MIAMI (June, 19 2018) – Former FIU women's tennis standout, Andrea Lazaro, recently named to the 2018 ITA Collegiate All-Star Team, was announced FIU's Women's Student-Athlete of the Year on Monday.

Lazaro, who graduated from FIU in May, had a team-best 30-5 singles mark during the 2017-18 campaign, finishing the season ranked No. 13 in the country. She notched a 15-2 record in dual matches at No. 1, with 14 of the victories in straight sets.
 
A native from Barcelona, Spain, Lazaro set numerous school records during her career with the Panthers. She was the first FIU tennis player to reach the NCAA Singles quarterfinals, won the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships and advanced to the semifinals in the 2017 Riviera ITA All-American Championship.
 
Lazaro won every singles match in the Conference USA Tournament and helped the team win its first C-USA Championship title defeating Rice. She was also recognized as the Most Outstanding Singles Player of the C-USA Championship and earned First Team Conference USA honors in both singles and doubles

Off the court, Lazaro was named to the 2018 Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and earned 2018 C-USA Commissioner Academic Medal.
