A Coley jumper from the paint with 11:47 to play gave FIU its first lead of the night. A half court pass from Coley to Shade resulted in Shade drawing the charge and hitting both free throws, as the Panthers trailed by one, 17-16, with nine minutes to go in the half. Idom drained a shot from beyond the arc on the following possession, putting FIU ahead, 19-17. Shade then put the Panthers up by a then-high five points, 23-19, from a layup with just under six minutes remaining. Coley, on the following possession, drained her first trey of the night. FIU held a commanding 12-point, 33-21 lead after the first 20 minutes.

Coley shot a game-high 15 points in the first half, going 6-of-12 from the floor and a perfect 2-for-2 from the line.
