MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (April 4, 2015) – The sixth-ranked FIU sand volleyball concluded the Doctors Hospital Surf and Turf Invitational with two more sweeps, this time over Carson-Newman and Florida Atlantic. With the two dual victories, the Panthers improve to 17-1 on the year and have swept opponents in 12 of those victories.
FIU posted straight-set wins in all but one set on the weekend, highlighted by the No. 5 team of senior
Tina Toghiyani and sophomore
Aren Cupp. The duo only allowed nine match points against Carson-Newman, which is an FIU sand volleyball record. Toghiyani and Cupp also only allowed four points in the first set against the Eagles, which ties a program record.
The No. 1 tandem of senior
Maryna Samoday and
Anja Licka continues to cruise as they posted two more decisive victories. The dynamic duo improved to 17-1 in dual action and posted their 13
th and 14
th consecutive dual-match winning streak.
