RUSTON, Louisiana (Feb. 2, 2019) – Despite a good day offensively for the FIU women's basketball team, the Panthers couldn't overcome Louisiana Tech on the road as the Lady Techsters earned a 90-72 victory in Ruston.
The Lady Techsters led by as much as 25 points, but a furious comeback in the third quarter saw that lead trimmed to just 10 points entering the fourth quarter. LT retook momentum in the final 10 minutes, after outscoring FIU 26-18 and earning the 90-72 victory.
With the loss, the Panthers fall to 3-19 overall and 0-9 in C-USA action. LT improves to 12-11 and 5-5 in league play.
FIU was led by
Paula Orenes, who scored a season-high 21 points. Freshman
Ce'Nara Skanes posted her seventh-straight game in double-figures, as the Oklahoma City native scored 17 points on the day and also pulled down eight rebounds.
FIU fell behind 30-15 early after the first quarter before recovering the second period to only be outscored 24-22 with the deficit at 54-37 at the break. The Panthers came out on fire in the third quarter after FIU trimmed the deficit to just 10 points entering the final quarter of action.
