MIAMI – The FIU women's swimming and diving team opened the TYR Fall Classic with an impressive performance on Friday, picking up a total of 256 points, while sitting in first place overall after day one.
 
FIU racked up seven first place wins and six top three finishes on the afternoon.
 
The relay team of Diana Santamaria, Ingrid Huszar, Oumy Diop, and Christie Chue took first in the 400-yard medley relay to begin day one with a time of 3:48.87. In the 200-yard free relay, the Panthers placed first as the team of Jessica Shpilko, Santamaria, Daisson, and Curthoys-Davies all paced for a time of 1:35.21.
 
In the 200-yard freestyle, Harliai Curthoys-Davies shined racking up a time of 1:53.18 to take home first place in the A-Final. Ana Luiza Daisson came away with the 1^st place victory in the B-Final with a time of 1:54.49
 
Shpilko had a strong performance with a pair of individual top two finishes, taking first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.20 while placing second in the B-Final of the 100-yard butterfly clocking in with a 59.14 finals time.
 
The Panthers took home first in the 100-yard breaststroke as Chue placed first with a finals time of 1:02.82 in the A-Final. In the B-Final, Huszar swept the competition with a time of 1:04.94.
 
Oumy Diop placed second in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 56.40 in the A-Final.
 
In the 400-yard individual medleys, FIU picked up a pair of third places finishes with Nicole Frank scoring a time of 4:31.13 in the A-Final while Mia Zahab in the B-Final timed with a 4:35.65
 
For the 100-yard backstroke, Frank swam for a time of 59.75 to finish second.
 
On the diving side, reigning AAC Diver of the Week Ruska Lehtonen placed second in the 3-meter with an overall score of 261, while freshman Kristina Keenan slotted third with a total of 247.45.
