Baseball Back in the Friendly Confines of FIU Baseball Stadium to Host Western Kentucky

Panthers looking to finish conference play strong

MIAMI (May 4, 2023) – The FIU baseball team returns to FIU Baseball Stadium this weekend to host Western Kentucky in a three-game C-USA series.
 
Game one is set for Friday May 5 with first pitch at 6:30 p.m. Fans can watch the game love on C-USA TV.
 
THE HITS KEEP ROLLING
FIU currently boasts four starters hitting above .300 after 43 games.
 
Junior Ryne Guida has been the Panthers most consistent hitters in 2023. His .353 average is tied for the team high and his 39 RBI leads the Panthers. He is also lead in hits with 61.
 
Alec Sanchez has been on an absolute tear, currently on a 26-game on-base streak. He is hitting .353 and leads the team in home runs with 10.
 
FIU leadoff man Mike Rosario is third in average at .335. He leads the team in runs and steals at 45 and 19, respectively. He is also second in hits with 60.
 
Ruben Carpio has been unstoppable since becoming a regular in the lineup. He is hitting .365 with 27 hits and 22 RBI.
 
IN BUNCHES
In 2023 FIU has pushed home 282 runs across 44 games.
 
They have scored at least five runs in 28 games and reached double digits nine times.
 
FIU has not been shutout in 2023.
 
LEADERS IN THE PACK
The C-USA stat leader top 10s are littered with Panthers.
 
Rosario is in the top 10 in six different categories. He is number six in runs, eighth in hits and leads C-USA in steals.
 
Guida ranks fifth average and seventh in hits.
 
Sanchez is starting to work his way up the rankings, sitting sixth in average, sixth in slugging percentage and tied for eighth in home runs.
 
In the field, Figueroa and Girardi have been leading the way.
 
Girardi third C-USA in assists with 120.
 
Figueroa is tied for the third most putouts in C-USA with 350.
 
The duo is tied for the most double plays fielded with 54.
 
SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
Western Kentucky is 25-20 this season and have swept their last two conference opponents.
 
Senior Tristin Garcia leads the WKU offense with his team leading .337 average to go with 58 hits and 27 RBI.
 
Freshman Dawson Hall has been a top arm for Western Kentucky in 2023. In his 48.1 innings he is 5-3 with a 3.17 ERA and 34 strikeouts.
