Lastra, one day after breaking the FIU indoor mile record, set the Panthers' 800 #2 all time mark by running 2:10.60 - winning first place in the event. The record was set in 2022 by Daira Deicmane - 2:10.51.
"Valerie had an incredible weekend," said FIU distance coach Jermaine Felix. "It's a joy to watch her compete like this and continue to succeed at a high level."

Ane Martin Del Campo also excelled in the 800, placing fourth in a field of 72 competitors. She was the top freshman in the event, and currently stands third in the CUSA rankings, just behind Lastra.
Arielle Ho nearly won the Panthers a third event on the weekend, tying for second in the high jump with a mark of 1.65m.
In the 3000, Andrea Loizidou earned a fourth place mark, finishing in 9:54, the third best mark all-time in FIU indoor history.
Janiya Cesar and Michaelle Valentin both set PR's in the shot put, with Cesar's mark of 13.55m good for third place, with Valentin following behind in fourth.
FIU will now prepare to compete in the Music City Challenge at Vanderbilt, the final regular season meet of the indoor season before the Conference USA Championships.
