MIAMI — FIU's 35th-ranked women's tennis program defeated Tulane 4-1 at home on Sunday for its sixth consecutive victory.
The Panthers (7-2) closed out the match in just over two hours in their return to their home courts. FIU earned the doubles point with convincing wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to take the 1-0 lead.
FIU's singles trio of Ekaterina Khairutdinova, Valery Gynina and Katerina Mandelikova each posted straight set wins to clinch the match. Khairutdinova's 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles proved to be the deciding point.
In doubles, Oyinlomo Quadre and Mandelikova defeated Tulane's top tandem 6-1. Khairutdinova and Salma Loudili handled their opponents 6-2 at the No. 2 slot to secure the Panthers' first team point.
In singles, Gynina won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 while Mandelikova matched that with an identical win at No. 4 6-3, 6-2. Both winning doubles tandems are undefeated so far this season.
