MIAMI — FIU'S men's basketball's Javaunte Hawkins was recognized as the Conference USA (CUSA) Player of the Week, as announced on Monday afternoon.
Hawkins delivered a memorable 27-point performance during FIU's Senior Night victory over Western Kentucky. The senior guard matched a career-high and scored the last 11 points for the Panthers, including the game-winning jump shot with less than six seconds to go.
The Lee's Summit, Mo. native knocked down six threes, which also matched a career-high and made three of those in the final two minutes. Hawkins currently sits third in CUSA in three-point percentage, shooting 38.8 percent with 76 made threes on the season.
Hawkins' current mark of 76 made threes ranks sixth-most in program history for threes in a season. He becomes the second Panther to win CUSA Player of the Week this season, joining Arturo Dean.
FIU takes on UTEP and NM State this weekend to close out the regular season before its trip to the CUSA Championships.
