HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — FIU's men's basketball program will be the No. 9 seed in the upcoming Conference USA (CUSA) Men's Basketball Championships, as announced by the league office on Saturday afternoon.
The ninth-seeded Panthers (10-21, 5-11 CUSA) will face off with eighth-seeded Jacksonville State (14-17, 6-10 CUSA) on the evening of Tuesday, March 12 at 9 p.m. ET inside the Propst Arena in Huntsville, Ala. The two sides played two highly-competitive games when they met during the regular season with FIU losing both games to Jax State by a combined nine points.
This will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams in the Conference USA Tournament. FIU is 2-6 all-time in the C-USA Tournament.
Sam Houston earned the No. 1 overall seed as the outright CUSA Regular Season Champions and will await the winner of FIU-Jax State in the Quarterfinals on Wednesday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
Second-seeded Louisiana Tech will take on seventh-seeded Middle Tennessee in the other quarterfinal on Wednesday, slated for 9 p.m. ET.
On Thursday, March 14, the 4-5 matchup will pit No. 4 Liberty against No. 5 UTEP at 6:30 p.m. ET. The final quarterfinal tilt will include third-seeded Western Kentucky against sixth-seeded New Mexico State at 9 p.m. ET.
The semifinal rounds will then be on Friday, March 15 at 12:30 p.m. ET and 3 p.m. ET, respectively. The championship game is then slated for an 8:30 p.m. ET tip on Saturday, March 16.
