MIAMI, Fla. — No. 27 women's tennis' Ekaterina Khairutdinova has been named Conference USA's (CUSA) Player of the Week, as announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Khairutdinova picks up her second Player of the Week this season and FIU's fifth-overall as a program. The sophomore from Krasnodar, Russia led FIU to a 4-1 victory over FAU on Saturday with victories in both singles and doubles.
In doubles, Khairutdinova teamed up with Salma Loudili for a 6-2 win at the No. 2 slot. After FIU dropped the doubles point, 'Katya' led the Panther comeback with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the top singles spot.
The Panthers won the top four singles matches to claim the 4-1 win. This season, Khairutdinova has won six straight matches since being moved up to the No. 1 spot for FIU and sports a 16-2 overall singles record. She has been a force at the No. 2 doubles slot as well with Loudili, going 9-2 so far.
FIU preps for the CUSA Championships at home this weekend, April 18-21.
