EL PASO, Texas (May 13, 2023) - The FIU track and field program concluded action at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships Sunday, highlighted by a gold medal from Michaelle Valentin in the discus and a silver from Valerie Lastra in the 1500.

Valentin, a junior, threw 56.64m to comfortably win the event. She now will prepare for the upcoming NCAA East Regional, with the goal of advancing to NCAA Outdoor for the second consecutive year.

"Michaelle came here and took care of business," said head coach Ryan Heberling. "That's a really solid start to the postseason for her and good things are ahead."

Lastra earned silver in the 1500 for FIU with a time of 4:27.81, one of three Panthers who qualified for the finals along with Lisa Adjouadi and Ania San Roman Lopez.

Danielle McGonigle narrowly missed out on a medal, placing fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.28m. Isabell-Mary Luik took a fourth place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.70m. In the finals of the women's 800, Ane Martin Del Campo earned points with a sixth place finish of 2:15.59.
