MIAMI (May 16, 2024) - A record ten athletes from the FIU track and field program have qualified for the NCAA East Regional, set to take place Mayy 22-25 in Lexington, Kentucky.
On the women's side,
Nicole Janse Van Rensburg (pole vault), Luciana Gomez-Iriondo (pole vault),
Michaelle Valentin (discus, hammer),
Christiana Ellina (javelin),
Hannah Jansen (javelin), and
Selena Calix (javelin) will represent the Panthers, while
Raynell Chambers (400),
Alex Gabossy (high jump),
Ethan Riley (pole vault), and
Devin Mannings (discus) will compete for the men.
"It's a record year and we're excited for the chance to compete for sports at the national championship," said head coach
Ryan Heberling. "FIU continues to be a place where our athletes can develop to be some of the best in the country."
Valentin, Ellina, and Janse Van Rensburg are both seeded in the top-12, which would advance them to NCAA Outdoor.
Last year, the Panthers advanced three athletes to the outdoor championships, a program best under Heberling.
