DES MOINES, Iowa – The FIU baseball program dropped the middle game of their three-game series at Iowa, losing 15-2 in seven innings from Principal Park Friday night.
Iowa took the lead in the first with eight runs in the inning on seven hits. The Hawkeyes tacked on a pair of runs in the second, fourth, and five, before securing a lone in the second to make it 15-0.
FIU added their only runs of the night in the sixth as Hector Candelas punched a double down the right field line to score a pair of runs,
Joel Pineiro (2-4) was tagged with the loss, only working an inning, allowing the eight runs in the first. Evan Alwine worked a pair of innings out the bullpen, while Bryce Greene strung 1.1 innings on the night. Senior Richie Pena gave up no earned runs in 1.2 innings with a strikeout.
In addition to Candelas, Ryne Guida and Alex Ulloa each had a hit for the Panthers, while Ulloa got on-base in all three at-bats on the night.
