LEXINGTON, Kentucky (May 25, 2024) - FIU thrower
Michaelle Valentin qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships Saturday in the discus, just two days after earning a spot in Eugene in the hammer throw.
Valentin placed 10th with a throw of 55.14m - earning a spot in a second event at NCAA Outdoor, where she earned second-team All-American honors last year.
"Being able to qualify for both of my events means the world to me," said Valentin. "That was my goal for this year. I haven't hit the numbers that I've wanted to hit, but I've still got two more weeks to figure in out, and hopefully in Eugene is my time to shine."
"I'm not where I want to be, but I'm glad I'm not where I used to be."
The performance caps a notable week for FIU in which both Valentin and javelin thrower
Christiana Ellina qualified for NCAAs.
Elsewhere for the Panthers, a record 10 athletes competed for FIU over the course of the regional competition. Results include -
Luciana Gomez-Iriondo - Pole Vault | T-15th (4.10m - personal best)
