MIAMI - The College Sports Communicators, formerly known as CoSIDA, announced its Baseball Academic All-District accolades on Tuesday, as four Panthers were honored for their contribution on and off the field among the all-district nods in FIU's Ryan Cabarcas, Ryne Guida, Orlando Hernandez, and Cameron Knox.
Cabarcas, a redshirt senior from Pembroke Pines, Fla. holds a 3.92 GPA as a Global Strategic Communications major in the Master's program.
The third-year Panther played a significant role of FIU's bullpen, having his best season in 2024. He made 18 appearances alongside three starts in 43.2 innings pitched with 59 strikeouts. Cabarcas sported a 4.74 ERA in addition as the team-leader in saves (6), also a career-high. In his final college appearance at Iowa on May 16,, Cabarcas pitched 1.1 innings with three strikeouts to secure the save and win on the road. The southpaw eclipsed the 200-career strikeout mark in the 7-6 victory against Florida Gulf Coast on April. 10. He was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Midseason Stopper of the Year Watch List for his efforts, becoming the first Panther to make the list since 2012.
Guida, a senior from Fort Lauderdale, Fla, recently graduated this spring with a 3.97 GPA in Business Management.
The senior has been the Panther's star the past two seasons as the primary designated hitter, having played in all 57 games in 2024. He led the team in RBI (56), doubles (18), and batting average .335. His 56 RBI marked back-to-back seasons of 50+ RBI for Guida, becoming the first Panther since Mike Martinez (2010-2011) to earn that feat. This season, the righty bat logged a 32 on-base streak, the longest on-base streak for a Panther this season. In CUSA play this year, Guida has 25 RBI (6th in RBI), hitting .320 with six doubles. In addition, the senior was named to the CUSA First All-Conference for his standout efforts.
Hernandez, a pitcher from Miami, Fla, graduated with a 3.69 GPA in Criminal Justice with a Pre-Law certificate. The senior earned his second CSC Academic All-District Honor winning the award in 2023. Hernandez had his best season at FIU with an ERA of 1.57 in 13 appearances, logging 34.1 innings, allowing just six earned runs. He posted a 2-1 record in addition to a pair of saves, earning the CUSA Second Team All-Conference. From March 3rd- March 28th, Hernandez did not allow an earned run in 12.2 innings through five appearances.
Knox, a senior from Mt. Lebanon, Pa, sports a 3.97 GPA with a major in English.
The righty finished his second-year at FIU, having made 18 appearances with 13 starts this season. He holds a ERA of 4.20 in 55.2 innings with 37 strikeouts, limiting batters to a .252 batting average. In CUSA action, he finished third in the conference with 3.23 ERA in eight conference starts with 30.2 innings thrown. The righty earned the save in the first round of the CUSA Championships vs Western Kentucky on May. 22, pitching 2.1 innings allowing an earned run. Knox won the Stephen M. Fain Academic Excellence Award this spring given to the senior who has the highest GPA in FIU Athletics.
