MIAMI– Men's basketball forward Corey Stephenson earned FIU's first Conference USA Player of the Week honor since the 2023-24 season, the league announced Monday.
Stephenson, who leads the team with 17.5 points per game, had another strong performance in the team's 2-0 week, averaging 16.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists all while shooting 64.2 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from three.
On Wednesday, Stephenson neared another double-double, going for 18 and 8 on 5 of 7 shooting as the Panthers took down FGCU 89-83. He knocked down a pair of threes while also dishing two assists, helping the Panthers beat the Eagles for the first time since the 2021-22 season.
On Saturday, he tied for the team lead in scoring, notching 14 points on 4-7 shooting while also going 2-3 from three-point range again. He also tied his season high with three steals as FIU routed Jacksonville 88-65.
Stephenson's honor is the Panthers' first since the 2023-24 season, when Javaunte Hawkins won it on Mar. 4.
FIU will be back in action in eight days, taking on Miami on Dec. 16 at Watsco Center.
