Clemson, S.C. (Jan. 12, 2016) – The Panthers traveled to Clemson, S.C., this past weekend for the Orange & Purple Classic (Jan .9) as FIU saw 11 finishes in the top-three and 38 in the top-eight. The classic marked the Panthers second indoor meet of the season.
On the women's side, freshman
Clarissa Cutliff held the performance of the day with a first-place finish in the high jump. She registered a personal-best of 1.75m, and also broke the freshman school record. Freshman
Kenflore Atilus followed closely behind with a 1.70m jump, marking a new personal record to give her the second-place finish.
Junior
Chandra Fullwood threw a personal-best of 17.57m in the weight throw landing her a second-place finish. Fullwood also saw a season-best in the shot put with an 11.37m mark and a sixth-place finish.
On the track, the Panthers took third, fourth and fifth in the 200-meter dash. Freshman
Sidnee Wilkerson ran a personal-best of 25.69. Following closely behind, senior
Cam'ree Jackson finished with 25.70 and senior
Sharniece King with 25.85.
The FIU women's 4x400 meter A team finished in third. The relay team was composed of freshman
Kayla Woulard, senior
Jaylaan Slaughter, sophomore
Shaquita Smith, and King.
On the men's side, senior and Croatia native
Luka Mustafic dominated shot put with a 17.13m mark to land him a landslide first place finish. Meanwhile on the field, sophomore
Christian Williams gave a solid performance marking 1.95m in the high jump. Williams finished in third.
On the track, both mid-distance and distance, put in work taking the top two spots in the 800m and first in the 5000m. Junior
Eric Jones took the gold during his Panther debut with a 1:55.73 finish in the 800m. Senior
Brandon Ballard followed closely behind with a 1:56.20 time, giving him the second place finish. Meanwhile, freshman
Ronny Greenup gave a solid performance finishing the 5k in 16:07.38 giving the Panthers another sweeping first place finish.
The Panthers will return to the track on February 5 as they travel to New York, N.Y. to compete in the Armory Track Invitational.
