FIU Women’s Tennis Wins Four Singles Matches versus North Texas on Final Day of UCF Quad Tournament

ORLANDO, Fla. (Jan. 18, 2016) – The FIU women's tennis team took four of six singles matches versus Conference USA foe North Texas during the final day of the UCF Quad Tournament on Monday afternoon from the UCF Tennis Complex.
 
With the four victories on Monday, FIU finished the weekend with 10 total singles wins, including multiple victories by freshman Maryna Veksler, redshirt freshman Andrea Lazaro, junior Nina Nagode and sophomore Nerma Caluk.
 
Veksler defeated UNT's Nastya Shestakova, 6-4, 6-0, Lazaro downed Agustina Valenzuela, 7-6 (5), 7-5, Nagode defeated Laura Arciniegas, 6-4, 6-2 and Caluk (No. 69) topped Tamuna Kutubidze, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4). Junior Carlotta Orlando and senior Kaitlin Brozovich both suffered losses on the day. Orlando lost to Alexis Thoma, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5, and Brozovich fell to Minying Liang, 6-3, 6-3.
 
FIU also faced the Rice Owls in doubles action on the final day, dropping all three matches.
 
FIU will travel to Ft. Myers, Fla., to take on the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles on Saturday, Jan. 23 in the team's first dual match of the season. First serve is set for 1 p.m. ET.
