FIU Women's Golf Back in Action This Week in Memphis

MIAMI (October 16, 2016) -- After last weekend off, the FIU women's golf team is back on the course this week, competing in the Memphis Women's Intercollegiate, with a 36-hole Monday, followed by a final round Tuesday of 18 holes. The tournament will be contested at the par-71, 6,105-yard Ridgeway Country Club in Memphis, Tennessee.

Along with host Memphis and FIU, the 13-team field also includes Chattanooga, Cal-State Fullerton, Houston Baptist, IUPUI, Morehead State, Murray State, Samford, South Alabama, Tennessee Tech, UAB and WKU who will be sharing the tee boxes and fairways. FIU joins Fullerton and UAB as playing partners for the first day in the 9:15 Eastern shutgun start. The Panthers, Titans and Blazers will start on holes four through eight. That follow's Sunday's practice round ahead of the start of the tournament.

This is FIU's first time in the Memphis event, making the practice round important for the Panthers to learn the course.

"The conditions look good (highs in the upper 80's) and the course looks good," said FIU Head Coach Joe Vogel. "This will be a new course for us, so we need to learn where to play each hole."

The Panthers have finished third in both of the first two tournaments, giving FIU a 20-4 mark in the early part of the 2016-17 campaign. Four of the five players in the lineup will have their score counted for the team tally for each round.

Individually, senior Camila Serrano (Bogota, Columbia) has posted four of her six season rounds at or under par, with her 72.0 stroke average leading the way for FIU. Junior Katerina Krasova (Ricany, Czech Republic) is second on the team with a 73.5 stroke average, with freshman Carolina Rotzinger (Puebla, Mexico) third at 73.8 through six rounds.

Serrano was the Conference USA Golfer of the Week after going under par twice, finishing tied for 12th at 1-over par in Missouri two weeks ago.

"Most of our scores have been consistent," said Vogel. "We're still trying to get a feel for who we are and what we're doing. A few players are trying to get the corner turned so that all five scores are competitive in each round."

Following the action in Memphis, the Panthers will host the 39th Annual Pat Bradley Invitational, October 23-25 in Sarasota.
