FIU Women's Golf Enters Crowded Field at Missouri

COLUMBIA, Missouri (October 2, 2016) -- Following a third-place finish in their opening tournament in Nebraska, the FIU women's golf team visits the state of Missouri to compete in the Johnie Imes Invitational, which begins with a 36-hole Monday opening day, followed by 18 holes in a shotgun start on Tuesday to finish the event. The tournament will be contested at the par-72, 6,204-yard course, The Club at Old Hawthorne, located in Columbia, Missouri. FIU is 10-2 on the young season.

"We love competing in this tournament," said head coach Joe Vogel. "This course is outstanding and the tournament field is very competitive."

In addition to the Panthers and host Tigers, the tournament field includes Arkansas-Little Rock, Akron, East Tennessee State, FGCU, Fresno State, Kennesaw State, Long Beach State, Memphis, Mercer, North Texas, Northern Illinois, Rutgers and Troy.

The Panthers shot 29-over at the Chip-N Club Invitational, good enough for third place out of 11 teams last week. Senior Camila Serrano (Bogota, Columbia) birdied her last three holes to finish at 1-under par for the event (215). It was her fourth-lowest tournament score to par in her career.

FIU posted a pair of top-10 finishes in the leader board, with junior Katerina Krasova (Ricany, Czech Republic) landing in eighth place after a 5-over 221 last week.

Freshman Carolina Rotzinger (Puebla, Mexico) ended with a 9-over 225 in her first collegiate tournament.

The Panthers will send all six student-athletes on the roster to compete in Missouri.
