MIAMI (Oct. 27, 2016) – The FIU women's tennis team hosts the 2016 Panther Invitational this weekend from the FIU Tennis Courts. The three-day tournament will run Oct. 28-30 and will feature student-athletes from FIU, Florida Gulf Coast, Illinois State, USF and Stetson.
Admission is free to the public.
The tournament will consist of four singles draws and two doubles flights.
Action will being on Friday, Oct. 28 with two rounds doubles play beginning at 9:30 a.m. Singles action is set to begin at noon.
This weekend will mark the final fall tournament for the Panthers, which have totaled 37 singles wins and 18 doubles victories in three tournaments. FIU is led by junior
Mina Markovic, who has notched a 7-1 mark, while sophomore
Maryna Veksler has notched a 7-3 record this season. Veksler advanced to the quarterfinals of last weekend's ITA Southeast Regionals. In doubles action, the duo of Veksler and
Ulyana Grib have gone 6-1 this fall for a team-best 85.7 percent winning percentage. Also claiming six wins this season is the tandem of sophomore
Andrea Lazaro and senior
Nina Nagode, who come into this weekend's action with a 6-2 mark.
