2016 Panther Invitational Shortened Due to Weather

MIAMI (Oct. 30, 2016) – The 2016 Panther Invitational was shortened due to weather as Sunday's action from the FIU Tennis Courts was canceled.
 
This year's tournament got through doubles play of Saturday before rain forced the postponement of the reminder of day two action. Saturday's singles action was moved to Sunday, however weather plagued the final day forcing the invitational to be shortened.
 
On Saturday, FIU collected three doubles wins, claiming the championship of Flight 1, as well as a pair of third-place finishes. The duo of Andrea Lazaro and Nerma Caluk defeated USF's Nicole Dzenga and Vanja Klaric, 6-3, for the Flight 1 crown. FIU's Nina Nagode and Mina Markovic topped USF's Vera Bessonova and Olga Martinez, 7-6 (2) for third place in Flight 1, while Maryna Veksler and Ulyana Grbi won the third-place match in Flight 2, 6-1 over USF's Hailey Grillo and Ana Roman Domingez.
 
FIU finished the fall with a 41-22 record in singles action and 22-10 record in doubles play.
 
The Panthers will being dual match play, hosting the San Jose State Spartans on Jan. 23. First serve from the FIU Tennis Courts is set for 1:00 p.m. ET.
