Panthers Head to Atlanta for a Pair of Matches

MIAMI (Feb. 18, 2016) – The FIU women's tennis team (3-1) will head to Atlanta, Ga., for a pair of matches this weekend.

FIU will take on Georgia State (4-0) on Friday, Feb. 19. First serve is set for 1 p.m. ET. The Panthers will follow that up with a 9 a.m. match versus George Washington (3-1) on Saturday, Feb. 20.

Friday's match with GSU will mark the seventh meeting all-time between the two schools with the series tied at 3-all. The last meeting between FIU and Georgia State resulted in a 5-3 win for GSU on April 18, 1998 during the TAAC Championships in Macon, Ga.

Saturday' contest with the Colonials will mark just the second meeting all-time between the Panthers and GW. FIU won the first meeting with George Washington back in 2006, defeating the Colonials, 7-0, in Miami (March 17).

FIU comes into this weekend's action having won all three of its matches away from the FIU Tennis Courts. Freshman Maryna Veksler leads all Panthers with an 18-4 record in singles action this season (3-0 dual), having won five straight. Junior Nina Nagode is 8-2 in her last 10 matches and holds a 14-7 mark in singles play. Sophomore Nerma Caluk enters Friday's action with a 15-4 singles record, while redshirt freshman Andrea Lazaro has won nine of her last 10 matches to improve to 11-8 on the year.
