MIAMI (Feb. 25, 2016) -- The FIU men's soccer team headed to Zoo Miami Saturday, Feb. 13, for the Fifth Annual RunWild 5K. The RunWild 5K is a competitive and family-fun run through the local zoo to raise proceeds for the Chapman Partnership, a private sector partner of the Miami-Dade Homeless Trust. The Chapman Partnership provides services to empower homeless residents to become self-sufficient.
The event saw nearly 2,000 participants and 200 volunteers, including the Panthers, who helped throughout the walk and with the award ceremony. "The crowd really loved [the FIU soccer team] … especially when they started to whip and nae-nae," laughed Heather Wilson, volunteer specialist for the Chapman Partnership. "Chapman Partnership is grateful for our partnership with the FIU athletics department and I hope we will see [the FIU soccer team] at another one of our events."
"Our men's soccer team is always eager to help in the community and they jumped at the chance to be involved in this event," said
Liz Augustin, assistant athletic director for student-athlete development at FIU. "They have volunteered at Chapman Partnership in the past so it's great to see their continued involvement with the organization."
