MIAMI (March 21, 2016) – The FIU track and field team opened its outdoor season at the Hurricane Invitational at Cobb Stadium this past weekend.
The non-team-scoring event spanned two days and featured 12 schools (Boston University, College of the Bahamas, Bowdoin, FIU, Florida Memorial, George Mason, Keiser, Miami, Nova Southeastern, Palm Beach Atlantic, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Virginia Tech).
On the women's side, freshman
Clarissa Cutliff registered a second-place finish in the high jump (1.70m) and set a personal record in the long jump with a result of 5.52 meters. Fellow freshman
Kenflore Atilus placed third in the high jump with a mark of 1.65 meters.
Junior
Chandra Fulwood posted a pair of top-three finishes, placing third in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 50.85 meters, and finishing second in the shot put with a mark of 12.46 meters. Senior
Miriam Pierre registered a third-place finish in the discus (43.27m) and placed fourth in the hammer throw (50.32m).
In the javelin, sophomore
Brittany Corbett set a personal record with a mark 35.20 meters, notching a fifth-place finish. Finishing fifth in the long jump was freshman
Jada Roberson, who notched a mark of 5.55 meters.
On the men's side, sophomore
Ronny Greenup registered a fourth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run following a performance of 15:09.15. Sophomore
Christian Williams finished second in the high jump, posting a mark of 2.00 meters. Williams also placed fifth in the long jump with a mark 7.03 meters.
In the men's hammer throw, junior
Sean Pratt tallied a fifth-place finish, recording a mark of 45.77 meters.
The relay team of senior
Brandon Ballard, redshirt junior
Alton Eliphar, freshman
Earnest Hamilton and sophomore
Todd Jackson ran the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:14.15 to place second in the event.
The Panthers will next take part in the Hurricane Twilight Meet set for Friday, March 25.
