Series preview: Both teams are coming off dropping two of three games in their respective Conference USA series. Marshall lost its series to Southern Miss. FIU lost its series at Charlotte. . .Despite their series loss to Southern Miss, the Thundering Herd have won seven of their last nine games. Marshall is hitting just .251 as a team but have hit 18 home runs led by Tommy Lane, who has hit six long balls. The Herd's starting rotation for the series against FIU has compiled a 6.10 ERA this season. Marshall has a 4.83 team ERA. . .FIU is coming off a 2-3 road trip in which the Panthers split a two-game series with Jacksonville before their series at Charlotte. . .FIU is third in C-USA in hitting with a .308 average but eighth in pitching with a 4.23 ERA. FIU (263 hits) leads WKU by 48 hits for the conference lead. The Panthers also lead the conference in doubles with 45.
