Series preview: Both teams are near the bottom of the Conference USA standings in the early going. FIU is tied for ninth with UAB. UTSA is tied for 11th with Middle Tennessee. . .FIU is coming off dropping two of three games to Marshall in Miami. The Panthers did get the bats going in their last game, a 21-8 win at Bethune-Cookman last Tuesday. FIU hit five home runs in the game led by Zack Soria who was 5 for 6 with two home runs and six RBI. Eddie Silva, who leads the team with a .404 average, is on an 11-game hitting streak. Zach Files has a 10-game hitting streak. . .UTSA was swept by Southern Miss in a three-game set last weekend. Skyler Valentine has an 11-game hitting streak and is hitting .340. The Roadrunners used their ace Chance Kirby for four innings against Baylor on Tuesday. Kirby, who normally would start Friday night, might now not throw against FIU until Sunday. . .There are no radio broadcasts for the series this weekend because Roadrunner Field does not have a radio booth.
