FIU Track and Field Send Four to the NCAA Prelims

MIAMI (May 19, 2016) – The FIU Track and Field team will be sending four athletes to the 2016 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Championships.

On the men's side, the two qualifying athletes will appear in two events each. Redshirt-junior Alton Eliphar is seated at No. 21 in the 100-meter dash with a qualifying time of 10.33, and seated at No. 23 in the 200-meter dash with a 20.71 qualifying time. Senior Marcus Ghent sits in the No. 17 spot in the long jump with a 7.71m qualifying mark, and sits at No. 28 in the triple jump with a 15.62m mark.

Both, Eliphar and Ghent, registered school-records at the Conference USA Championship Tournament last weekend; Eliphar in the 200-meter dash and Ghent in the triple jump.

The women will be sending senior Jaylaan Slaughter and freshman Clarissa Cutliff. Slaughter sits in the No. 40 spot in the 400-meter hurdles with a qualifying time of 59.50. Cutliff sits in the No. 11 spot in the high jump with a 1.81m mark.

Cutliff, an Orlando-native, is ranked No. 15 in the nation with her C-USA Championship Tournament mark and also holds the school record in the high jump. 

The east region competition will be held in Jacksonville, Fla., May 26-28.
