MIAMI (May 23, 2016) – The FIU baseball team continued its hot play with a three-game sweep of the No. 13-ranked Southern Miss Golden Eagles this past weekend. The three-game series sweep extends FIU's winning streak to six games as the defending Conference USA Champions travel to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to defend their crown.
Heading into this year's C-USA Baseball Championships, FIU is hitting .300 with six home runs and 41 RBI during its current winning streak. Four of those six home runs came in the series finale (13-8 FIU victory) with the Golden Eagles as FIU became the only team to sweep USM in a three-game series this season. The four home runs on Saturday were a season-high at home for the Panthers. Led by junior
Nick Day, who belted two of the four long balls in the game, FIU used the fourth and fifth innings to score 10 runs and take control of the third and final game of the series as the Panthers' registered their second-straight series sweep.
FIU now turns its attention to Marshall as the Panthers take on the Thundering Herd in the opening round of the 2016 C-USA Baseball Championships on Wednesday, May. 25. First pitch is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.
