Ghent Punches Ticket to NCAA Championships in Triple Jump

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 28, 2016) – Senior Marcus Ghent qualified for this year's NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, with a school-record mark in the triple jump on Saturday afternoon during the finals of the NCAA East Preliminaries in Jacksonville, Florida.

The native of Cheverly, Maryland, notched a mark of 16.21 meters to finish fourth in the year's prelims. The mark set a personal record for the FIU senior, who will be making his first appearance in the NCAA Championships.

Ghent's previous PR was a mark of 15.62 during the 2016 Conference USA Outdoor Championships. The result not only set the then-school record, but earned Ghent Third-Team All-Conference USA honors as well as a bronze medal.

The 2016 NCAA Championships will take place June 8-11 at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
