FIU Indoor Track & Field Turns in Another Solid Outing at UAB Blazer Invite

The Panthers have a quick turnaround as they get back on the track Saturday in the UAB Vulcan Invite

MIAMI (January 13, 2017) – The FIU men's and women's indoor track and field teams took part in the UAB Blazer Invitational on Friday at the Birmingham, CrossPlex Arena and once again posted some impressive results. The Panthers turned in five top-three finishes on the day.
 
After finishing second and setting a school record of 1.85m in the high jump at the Clemson University Orange & Purple Classic last weekend – which was also the second-best mark in the nation – sophomore Clarissa Cutliff logged a first-place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.74m.
 
Also on the women's side, freshman Timberly Molden continued to shine early on in the season setting a new personal record of 13.47m in the shot put.
 
In men's action, senior Alton Eliphar turned in a time of 33.54 in the 300m which was good enough for second place. Also recording a second-place finish was freshman Allen Wiggins with a distance of 14.6m in the shot put.
 
Christian Williams took third in the men's high jump with a height of 2.00m, and the FIU 4x400m relay team consisting of freshman Akeem Simmonds, senior Wilkerson Myrtil, freshman Shammond Williams and junior Todd Jackson placed third with a time of 3:19.84 just three-hundredths of.m a second behind second place.
 
The Blazer Invitational is the first of back-to-back meets that the Panthers will take part in this weekend. FIU will get back on the track tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 14, as it takes part in the UAB Vulcan Invitational, also being held at the Birmingham CrossPlex Arena.
