TAMPA, Fla. (Oct. 2, 2016) – On the final day of the 2017 Bedford Cup, the FIU women's tennis team claimed a total of three flight championships in singles, and one championship title in doubles on Sunday afternoon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
Sophmore
Ulyana Grib and senior
Mina Markovic each won their flights with Grib defeating USF's Vanja Klaric, 6-2, 7-5, and Markovic downing North Florida's Louise Intert, 6-3, 6-0. Two other Panthers made it to their flight's championship contest.
Nerma Caluk downed USF's Juliana Cordosa 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 and junior
Gabriela Ferreira lost again Sofia Perez (FGCU) 6-4, 7-5.
In doubles action, FIU claimed one flight title with junior Marina Vekler and freshman
Ioana Minca topping UNF's Rafela Gomez and Louise Intert, 7-5.
In a consolation draw, Veksler won her second match against USF's Evelyne Tiron 6-0, 6-3.
Next up for the FIU tennis team is the 2017 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships in Los Angeles, which will see only
Andrea Lazaro competing for the Panthers. Lazaro leaves Monday and she will start play Tuesday October, 3rd.
