MIAMI, FLA. (Oct.21, 2017) –The FIU women's tennis team had a strong showing during day two of 2017 ITA Regional Championships, picking up seven victories (five singles, two doubles) on Saturday afternoon in Athens, Georgia.
In the first round of singles consolation, junior Maryna Veksler defeated USF's Juliana Cardosa, 6-1, 6-3 and senior
Nerma Caluk downed Mercer's Katie Sidor, 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore
Ulyana Grib beat UNF's Montano Lucia 6-0, 6-3 while senior
Mina Markovic lost to UCF's Silvia Bordes 6-2, 6-1.
In the second round, Veksler won against FSU's Andrea Garcia 6-3, 6-4 and Caluk defeated Giorgia State's Damira Muminovic 6-3, 2-6,10-5. Grib fell against Georgia's Morgan Coppoc 6-4, 1-6, 5-10.
In doubles quarterfinals, Veksler and Grib won against Florida's Austin Brooke and Katie Kubicz with a 8-4 win. Grib and Veksler advanced to the semifinals defeating UM's Ana Madcur and Estela Perez 8-6. In the first round of consolation draw, Lazaro and Markovic lost to Florida State's Gabriela Goldin and Lucia Prochazkova 6-8.
