MIAMI (October 23, 2017) – Senior captain
Paul Marie (Saint-Aubin-des-Bois, France) was tabbed the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after his outstanding performance this past weekend.
"I'm very happy for Paul," said FIU men's soccer Head Coach
Kevin Nylen. "He's had another good week and more importantly has had a good season for us. Now we continue to move forward with our game vs ODU."
Marie put up three points for the Panthers, including a goal and an assist during the 4-0 shutout of No. 24 New Mexico on Saturday, Oct. 21. He assisted the second goal for FIU in the 54th minute when he connected with freshman
Matias Barraza (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy). In the 70th minute, Marie capped a frantic play that was started by a big defensive play by
Alessandro Campoy (Miami, Fla. / Immaculate-LaSalle). Marie, who fired a shot that was saved by New Mexico keeper, Jason Beaulieu, collected his own rebound, and sent a shot over the keeper but below the crossbar to make the score 3-0
The France-native is currently third in scoring for the Panthers with 15 points on the year (6g, 3a). Marie ranks in the top-five in five offensive categories in Conference USA, including points, points-per-game, goals, goals-per-game and gamewinners.
As a team, the Panthers lead the nation in scoring offense with 3.15 goals-per-match. FIU is also ranked third and fourth in total goals (41) and total points (115), respectively. The Panthers are ranked in the top-25 for the fourth week straight. They are ranked 11th by College Soccer News and 13th by TopDrawerSoccer.com. Last week they were also ranked 11th in the United Soccer Coaches poll and 14th in the Soccer America poll; those rankings will be updated and released on Tuesday.
After collecting two wins last week over USF and New Mexico, the Panthers improve to 10-0-3 and extend their unbeaten streak to 13 matches, the longest since 2002.
The Panthers face Old Dominion for its last home match during the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.
