FIU Golf Finishes Third at 40th Pat Bradley Invitational

The Basics

-        FIU climbed three spots over the course of the final two rounds to finish third at the 40th Annual Pat Bradley Invitational at Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club. FIU finished at 29-over (301-296-296  893), their best finish of the young season.

-        Freshman Carolina Andrade (Bogota, Colombia) led the Panthers by finishing tied for 11th at 4-over par (72-76-72  220) after carding two rounds of even-par 72.

-        Sophomore Diana Velez (Dorado, Puerto Rico) was second on the team at 8-over (76-72-76  224) and produced a pair of 4-over rounds of 76. She was tied for 20th.

-        Senior Katerina Krasova (Ricany, Czech Republic) was two strokes behind Velez and landed in a tie for 26th at 10-over (77-76-73  226) and the only Panther to improve every round.

-        Freshman Hannah Leiner (Pompano Beach, Florida / North Broward Prep) produced a second-round par-72 and landed in a tie for 32nd of the 78-player field at 12-over par (81-72-75  228).  

-        Sophomore Carolina Rotzinger (Puebla, Mexico) fell to 62nd at 19-over (76-78-81  235).

-        Freshmen Agueda Cortilla (Barcelona, Spain) and Gabriela Powel (West Palm Beach, Florida / William T. Dwyer) played as individuals. Cortilla had one bad round and two excellent ones to land in a tie for 26th at 10-over (72-81-73  226). Powel was 32-over (82-87-79  248).

-        Southern Miss took the team title at 9-over (297-289-287  873), which tied for the third-lowest team score in the 40-year history of the event.  Wyoming's Gabrielle Gibson was the medalist, at 5-under par (71-70-70  211), tying for the tenth-lowest final score in the tournament's history.

Next up for the Panthers
FIU has completed the fall portion of the 2017-18 schedule. The student-athletes will transition into individual instruction and regroup in the spring semester. The next event on the calendar will be the Florida Challenge, a one-day event with schools only from the state of Florida in competition, on January 29 in Locanto, Florida.
