MIAMI (October 24, 2017) – The No. 8 FIU men's soccer team looks to extend its unbeaten streak to 14 matches on Wednesday when the Panthers close out the home portion of their regular season schedule against Old Dominion. First touch is slated for 7 p.m.
The Panthers come into the meeting against the Monarchs with a 10-0-3 overall record and a 5-0-1 record in Conference USA. FIU downed No. 24 New Mexico in a 4-0 shutout last Saturday, Oct. 21.
The Panthers, one of just two unbeaten teams in Division I men's soccer, come into this week ranked in all four collegiate soccer major polls for the fourth consecutive week, including a No 8 ranking in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
FIU is currently third in the nation in win-loss-tie percentage (.885) and joins No. 2 Indiana (13-0-3) as the only team without a blemish in the loss column. The last time the Panthers saw an unbeaten streak this long was 2002 when they went 13-straight matches without a loss. In addition, the Panthers are first in the nation in scoring offense, averaging 3.15 goals-per-game.
On the year,
Santiago Patino (Orlando, Fla. / Freedom) leads the team in points scored with 28 (12g, 4a) and goals with 12. Patino ranks in the top five in a number of offensive categories, including points-per-game, goals-per-game, and total goals.
Alessandro Campoy (Miami, Fla. / Immaculata-LaSalle) trails with 18 points scored (6g, 6a); while
Paul Marie (Saint-Aubin-des-Bois, France) totals 15 (6g, 3a). Marie was tabbed the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after putting up three points for the Panthers during the win over the Lobos.
In 12 matches played, goalkeeper
Hugo Fauroux (Cannes, France) boasts a 9-0-3 record, tallying 40 saves. On the year, he has allowed only 13 goals, totaled 3.5 shutouts, and boasts a 0.755 save percentage.
Old Dominion comes into Wednesday's match with an 8-3-2 overall record and a 5-0 record in the league. The Monarchs shutout Marshall, 1-0, on Saturday, Oct. 21.
Following Wednesday's match, the Panthers will close out their regular season on the road when they face Kentucky on Sunday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m.
