MIAMI (Oct. 27, 2017) –The FIU women's tennis team won all five singles matches during day one at FIU Invitational on Friday afternoon in Key Biscayne, Florida.
In the first round, senior
Mina Markovic defeated Drake's Kenya Williams 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 and then successively won in the second round against North Florida's Lucia Montano 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore
Ulyana Grib beat Drake's Joely Lomas 6-1, 6-0 while junior Maryna Veskler defeated Tess Herder, also of Drake, 6-3, 6-1. Senior
Nerma Caluk won against Texas State's Chia Ming Ming 6-4, 6-2.
The Panthers did not play any doubles match on the first day.
Action will resume on Saturday morning with doubles play starting at 8 a.m, followed by the singles final rounds.
