MIAMI (Oct. 31, 2017) – Three members of the FIU women's tennis team will compete in the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, Nov. 1-5, at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden facility in Indian Wells, California.
Andrea Lazaro will play in the singles event, while
Maryna Veksler and
Ulyana Grib will play in the doubles draw.
"Andrea, Maryna and Ulyana are honored to represent FIU in this event," said FIU women's tennis Head Coach
Katarina Petrovic. "It is a great accomplishment for our university and tennis program. It puts us on the map with the best teams and players in the country."
Lazaro automatically qualified for the Championships after playing in the single's semifinal match in the ITA All-American Championships, Oct. 3-7 in Los Angeles. She is the first player in FIU history to be selected in the singles' draw.
Veksler and Grib, won the ITA Regional Championships last week, in Athens, Georgia. The duo, is the first doubles tandem in school history to qualify for the prestigious tournament.
"I am very proud of the whole team and our success in the past couple of years. We have a goal and expectations for our spring season, and we have been working very hard to grow as a team."
The ITA Fall National Championships is the final tournament for the fall season and includes the best 64 women in the nation in the singles draw, and 32 best women's teams in the doubles draw. .
