LOS ANGELES, CALIF (Oct, 4 2017) – FIU senior
Andrea Lazaro fell to Anastasia Rychagova of Kansas, 6-3, 6-2, in the final qualifying round of the 2017 Rivera ITA All-American Championship in Los Angeles, California on Wednesday afternoon. Despite the loss, she was selected from the pool of third-round defeats to earn a spot in the main draw. Lazaro will play Alizee Michaud (Auburn) who is seeded No.8 in the draw at 2:45 p.m. Eastern on Thursday.
Ranked No. 29 in the preseason Oracle/ITA National Rankings, Lazaro has now lost twice against another ranked performer (she lost to No. 4 Sara Deevettila of North Carolina at the Oracle ITA Masters on September 21). This match was the first time the two athletes faced one another.
This was Lazaro's first appearance in the Rivera ITA All-American Championships and advancing to the third round of the qualifier marked the best record for FIU Tennis in the past 10 years (FIU's Yana Koroleva lost in first qualifying round in 2014).
