MIAMI (Nov.1, 2017) – FIU senior
Andrea Lazaro advanced to the second round of the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships on Wednesday, at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden facility in Indian Wells, California.
On the same day, the FIU doubles team of Maryna Veksler and Ulyana Grib fell in the first round.
Lazaro, a native of Barcelona, Spain, defeated Winthrop's Lauren Proctor, ranked No. 55 in the pre-seasonal ITA rankings, by a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Proctor won the 2017 ITA Regional Championships last week in South Carolina.
In the afternoon, the doubles team of junior Veksler and sophomore Grib, lost to Oregon's Shweta Sangwan and Alyssa Tobit 7-5, 6-2.
Play resumes on Thursday morning with singles plays. Lazaro will face Anastasia Rychogova, who beat Illinois's Asuka Kawai 6-2, 6-0.
