Successful Day Two for FIU Trio At 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships

INDIAN WELLS, CALIF. (Nov. 2, 2017) – FIU senior Andrea Lazaro won in the second round of the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships on Thursday afternoon at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California. In addition, the FIU doubles pair of sophomore Ulyana Grib and junior Maryna Veksler advanced to the second round of the consolation draw.

Lazaro defeated Kansas's Anastasia Rychagova, ranked No.10 the draw, 6-1, 6-2 and advanced to the third round of the tournament. "You never know in tennis… sometimes you win and sometimes you lose with the same player" said Lazaro after the match. "I feel happy and even more motivated and confident."

In the third round, Lazaro will face Oklahoma State's Vladica Babic, who dispatched Duke's Katlyn McCartney 6-1, 6-4 in the second round.

In doubles action Veksler and Grib won 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 against Ohio State's Fukuda Shiori and Tyrina Maria in the first round of the consolation draw.
