MIAMI (Nov. 9, 2017) – The FIU men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to take part in the 2017 NCAA South Region Cross Country Championships on Friday, Nov. 10, at the Harry Pritchett Running Park.
The women's 6K race will begin at 10 a.m. (ET) and the men's 10K event follows at 11 a.m.
A total of 31 teams compete at the NCAA Division I Championships. 18 bids are automatic (top two teams in each region), 13 bids are at-large.
After teams have been determined, 38 additional individuals, per gender, are selected to compete at the NCAA Championships. From those teams NOT selected in the above process, the top-four finishers at each regional are automatically selected (but must finish within the top 25 of the region). Two additional athletes will be selected from the remainder of the national pool (and must finish in the regional top 25) as at-large individuals.

Sherilene Gelderblom (Middelburg, Mpumalanga, South Africa/Kanonkop) has paced FIU so far this season, earning First-Team All-Conference USA honors following her sixth-place finish in a time of 17:22.41 at the C-USA Championship meet on Oct. 28. She also posted a first-place finish in Orlando, at the Disney Cross Country Classic on Oct. 7 and a second place finish in Gainesville, at the University of Florida Mountain Dew Gator Cross Country Invitational.
On the men's side, the Panthers look to improve on their six finishes this season.
