Giovine Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District® First Team

Illinois native selected to All-District 4 Team; Advances to national Academic All-America® ballot

MIAMI (November 9, 2017) – One day after being named to the Conference USA InTouch Credit Union All-Academic Team, FIU soccer player Luca Giovine (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) was named to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® Men's Soccer First Team. The teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Giovine, who has posted a 3.76 GPA in accounting and finance, appeared in 15 games for the Panthers as a forward, starting in three. The Roselle, Illinois native, recorded four points on the year, including one goal and two assists. The lone goal of the season came during the 5-0 shutout of North Florida (9/26). His first assist on the year came during the 2-1 win at UAB (9/14), when he connected with junior Santiago Patino (Orlando, Fla./Freedom) to take in the lead in the 14th minute. His second assist came in timely fashion when he set up redshirt-freshman Alessandro Campoy (Port au Prince, Haiti/Immaculate) with only two seconds left in the 3-1 win over Old Dominion (10/25).

A member of the FIU Honors College, this is his second-consecutive year receiving C-USA All-Academic honors. Giovine has also been named to the Commissioner's Academic honor roll for the last three years, has earned the Commissioner's Medal for the last two years, and has made Dean's List in all seven semesters at FIU.

The Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the seventh year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
