ATLANTA (Feb. 21, 2017) – The 2017 In-Touch Credit Union Conference USA Swimming and Diving All-Academic Team was announced on Tuesday, junior
Letizia Bertelli was named to the seven-member team, as voted by the league's sports information directors. Nominees must hold a minimum 3.2 GPA and be a regular participant for her team.
Bertelli, who was named the C-USA Swimmer of the Week on Jan. 3, has recorded a 3.82 GPA while studying international business. A native of Cremona, Italy, Bertelli appeared in 13 meets for the Panthers this season. She owns the team-best time in the 100 Free (49.32) and 100 Fly (53.91). Her top time in the 100 Free is also the top result in C-USA this season. She also recorded the league's top times in the 50 Fly (25.27). Bertelli notched NCAA B Standard qualifying marks six times and finished in the top three in events competed in 25 times this season. She recorded a season-best 22.66 in the 50 Free at the Louisville Invitational (11/18) and placed first in the 50 Free two times (11/5 versus UNF – 24.10; 12/15 versus Georgia Southern – 23.98). Her season-best time in the 100 Free resulted in a second-place finish at the Louisville Invitational (11/19). Bertelli also placed first in the 100 Free at the FIU Sprint Invitational (1/6) with a time of 53.08. She claimed top time of the season in the 100 Fly at the Louisville Invitational (53.91), placing second and took first in the 100 Fly during the FIU Sprint Invitational.
The Panthers will now turn their attention to the Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championships in Atlanta, Georgia. The back-to-back league champs will look for their third-straight crown beginning Feb. 22.
