FIU Women’s Tennis Earns 4-1 Win over St. John’s on Friday

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. (Feb. 3, 2017) – The FIU women's tennis team (3-1) posted four-straight singles wins to defeat the St. John's Red Storm (2-1), 4-1, at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., on Friday afternoon.
 
The Red Storm jumped out to a 1-0 lead, taking two of three matches in doubles play. FIU responded with four-consecutive points in singles action for the team's third win of the season. Ulyana Grib got the scoring started, tying the contest with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Irina Preotescu. Andrea Lazaro (No. 54 in the latest ITA rankings) defeated Jessica Livianu (No. 43 in the latest ITA rankings), 6-2, 6-4, to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead. The reigning Conference USA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, improved to 20-1 in dual meets during her career with the victory on Friday.
 
Maryna Veksler improved to 10-3 on the year with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Anna Morozova to give FIU a 3-1 advantage before Mina Markovic clinched the match, defeating Zofia Stanisz, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
 
FIU will take on Columbia on Saturday, Feb. 4, in New York. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
