MIAMI (Feb. 8, 2017) – In the latest Oracle/ITA Women's National Singles Rankings, sophomore
Andrea Lazaro has moved up 25 spots to No. 29 the organization announced on Wednesday.
Lazaro has helped FIU to a 4-1 start to the 2017 spring season, while posting a 4-0 mark at the No. 1 position. The native of Barcelona, Spain, owns a 10-3 overall mark in singles play this season and was named the Conference USA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week back on Jan. 31. She has defeated three ranked opponents this season, including then-ranked No. 21 Caroline Brinson (Georgia) during the opening round of the 2016 ITA Southeast Regional Championships in Gainesville, Florida.
Lazaro has registered an overall career mark of 34-12 and a 21-1 record in dual matches. Nine of her 10 victories this season have come in straight sets. Lazaro began the spring ranked No. 54.
FIU will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 18, when the Panthers host Conference USA foe Middle Tennessee. First serve from the FIU Tennis Courts is 1:00 p.m.
