Series Preview
After Miami and Florida Atlantic, FIU has played its most games in a series against Stetson. The Panthers and Hatters meet for the 101st and 102nd time in the two-game series that starts Tuesday in Deland, Fla. . .FIU finished a stretch of nine games in nine days by going 7-2 and winning each of the three series the Panthers played. FIU took three of four from Manhattan. FIU swept a two-game series from crosstown rival Miami and the Panthers took two of three games from Charleston Southern. . .Junior catcher JC Escarra and freshman right fielder Adam Sevario led the way. Escarra was 7 for 15 with two home runs and eight RBI during the past week in series wins against Miami and Charleston Southern. Sevario, who leads the team with a .395 average, went 9 for 19. Kenny Meimerstorf was 8 for 19. . .Robert Garcia pitched a one-hitter in the 12-1 win over Miami on Tuesday. Garcia pitched a career-high seven innings and struck out a career-high nine batters against the Hurricanes. .Stetson won two of three games in its weekend series at The Citadel. . .The Hatters have lost five of their last eight games and snapped a five-game losing streak when they won a doubleheader at The Citadel last Saturday. . .Jack Gonzalez (.308) is the lone .300 hitter on the Stetson team. . .The Hatters have gotten good work on the mound with a 3.89 team ERA. . .Stetson defeated FIU in the lone meeting last season.
