FIU Women's Golf Faces Quality Field at SunTrust Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Florida (March 10, 2017) -- FIU women's golf has its shortest turnaround of the season, less than two weeks, as the Panthers hit the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Florida, at the 2017 SunTrust Gator Women's Golf Invitational Saturday and Sunday. The University of Florida hosts the tournament, on the Par-70, 6,002-yard course.

In addition to the sixth-ranked Gators and FIU, the field includes No. 12 Duke, No. 23 UCF, Campbell, Clemson, Kansas, Maryland, Mercer, Troy, USF, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.

The Panthers sport the reigning Conference USA Golfer of the Week, senior Camila Serrano (Bogota, Colombia), an award she won for the third time this season. Serrano finished in ninth place at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables last week, shooting a 2-under 214. Her three rounds included a pair of 2-under scores, giving her 10 rounds under par of the 17 competitive rounds played by FIU this season. Her 72.41 season-stroke average is two strokes better than her career mark and leads the Panthers this season.

The tournament field will play 36 holes on Saturday with a final round of 18 holes on Sunday. FIU will be paired with Maryland and Virginia Tech for the 36-hole Saturday. The teams will start from the 11th hole at 8:15 a.m. in the shotgun format. The pairings will be reset for the final day based on the scores after Saturday.
