No. 24 FIU Women’s Tennis Wins 12th-Straight with 4-0 Shutout of Iowa

MIAMI (March 18, 2017) – Claiming the team's 12th-straight victory, the No. 24-ranked FIU women's tennis team (14-1) shut out the Iowa Hawkeyes, 4-0, of Saturday afternoon from the FIU Tennis Courts.
 
The win improved FIU to 9-0 at home this season and marked the Panthers' ninth shutout of the season. FIU has not allowed a point in four-straight matches.
 
The Panthers took an early 1-0 lead, winning the doubles portion of the match as Maryna Veksler and Ulyana Grib defeated Adorabol Huckleby and Montana Crawford, 6-2, and Mina Markovic and Gabriela Ferreira downed Elise Van Heuvelen and Zoe Douglas, 6-4.
 
In singles play, Veksler gave FIU a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Zoe Douglas. The win gave the FIU sophomore her team-best 18th of the season. Ferreira and Grib followed that by winning in straight sets. Ferreira defeated Montana Crawford, 6-3, 6-0, for the 3-0 advantage. It was the seventh-straight singles win for the native of Asuncion, Paraguay. Grib clinched the match with her 17th win of the season, topping Aimee Tarun, 6-2, 6-2.
 
FIU will next host Towson University on Monday, March 20. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
